Easy home maintenance tips to leak-proof your home
Posted on: July 30, 2020In the Philippines, we experience 2 kinds of seasons: Wet and dry. Being a tropical country, we are no stranger to storms, typhoons, and habagat. While the wet season is seen as part of our country’s normal weather cycle, continuous showers and excessive rain can cause damage to our homes. To help you prevent those, we’ve come up with our newest article series on rain preparedness. On today’s article we’re tackling preventive ways and some easy maintenance tips to prepare your home and your family from water leakage this rainy season.
1. Conduct a roof check
When rain starts to fall, your roof serves as your shield against it – always make sure to check your roof for any possible, cracks, holes & rusty spots. If there are any of these, make time to have them changed before rain starts.
If it’s already the rainy season, we recommend buying sealants to temporarily block any water that may possibly leak inside your home and to prevent further damage.
2. Check your ceilings
Sometimes your exterior may not be the problem but rather the interior. Always check your ceilings, your roof may be fine but the ceiling should work well too. If there are signs of water leakage like water rings, molds or even discoloration immediately inspect your ceiling as water is definitely going through your home.
3. Check your electrical fittings
Broken switches, loose and exposed wires are one of the many dangers that you should look at for when the rainy season starts. Faulty electrical fittings can definitely be a big red flag as these can cause electric shock to your kids and pets when not fixed properly.
Have your friendly neighborhood electrician check your electrical fittings regularly to keep safe during or even after the wet season.
Getting your home typhoon and leak-ready is not that difficult, it just needs basic care. It’s better to maintain a safe home for your family and thank yourself for having such a good foresight of keeping your home prepared for any possible natural caused damage.
